Danny Gatton played by ear, if he heard it, he could play it and he remembered it. He listened to it all and he could play it all – jazz, rock, country, blues and rockabilly— and all at once. He was an encyclopedia of music. In performance he masterfully blended all these musical genres.
It wasn’t just the locals that stood in awe; he gained an international reputation among those who knew what he could do. Guitarists who you have heard of will sing his praises for you.
His jaw dropping speed came from early banjo work and playing with every finger on his right hand. Danny Gatton seemed to be able to play any instrument he picked up: fiddle, drums, steel guitar, banjo and bass.

Painfully shy outside his inner circle, Danny loved to be with his family and friends AND work on his old cars.
The Humbler – Danny Gatton runs through his life and American Music since the 60’s. There is a particular focus on the decade of 1984-1994. This decade runs the gamut between the height of Danny Gatton’s musical successes to Danny’s untimely death in October 1994. His suicide was a shocking blow to all who knew him.
